Camping at Rutland SC.
Great location for sailing on fresh water, and during the weekend the reservoir has plenty of safety boat cover. Camping is in the field opposite and it’s possible to book a longer stay than just the weekend. This is an opportunity for those not tied to school term time to have a longer break.
Lymington to Bucklers Hard is an interesting technical and adventurous cruise. Leave one river, sail up the Solent and into another river, then quite a long way inland. It’s a 20 mile round trip, so it’s a long cruise, and with the promise of a pub at Bucklers Hard and at Lymington.
Seafarers to Lepe Country Park – destination the Cafe on Lepe.
Be astonished at how far out the sea goes on this gently shelving beach. Anchors mandatory, and keep your boat afloat as it’s tens of metres to carry them if they get beached. Cheesy chips and hot chocolate always add cheer to a good cruise. 10 mile round trip.
Cruiser Rally to Lymington or Yarmouth – sailing west on Saturday and returning to Portsmouth on Sunday.
Lunch at the Kings Head, Wickham and a cycle ride along the old railway line in the Meon Valley for those who wish. Twelve miles each way on a very easy off road route. A seven year old did it both ways last year!
Stokes Bay to Ryde is a short cruise to the Isle of Wight, visiting the golden sandy beach of Ryde. Ice Creams are a treat at this destination. It’s an 8 mile round trip, so short and the navigation is generally easy (head for the spire of Ryde Church).
Cody Sailing Club is 70 years old this year, and to recognise this milestone we have booked the whole of an event location for a meal. Advanced organisers are Sarah and Vanessa.
Previous club members will be invited and it’s a ticket only event. More details will be provided to club members.
Aviation, motoring, transport exhibits, etc. John C did some of his navigation training in the Vickers Varsity that is on display here.
Lunch at the Ferry Inn, Hayling Island. Cycle along old railway line past the pretty sea shore. Meet at the pub, walk, drive, cycle, or sail there.
South Downs Planetarium, Chichester. Stars, planets, navigation, space stations, all explained in an engaging manner. We can ask them to explain the tides to us!
Submarine Museum, Gosport. We aim to voyage on top of the water, they voyage underneath!
