Stokes Bay to Wootton Creek – a straightforward blast across the Solent and back (unless it is made more interesting with a trip up wind and tide first).

70th Anniversary Sailing Celebration and Push The Boat Out – Stokes Bay
May 20 all-day

To begin the celebrations of Cody Sailing Club’s 70th year, we plan to hold a celebration of  the club with a Beach Day, regatta with short races, a “Chicken Run” (1) , with a lunchtime BBQ opportunity on the beach, and prospective members invited to join in the fun.

This is a combined Cruiser and Dinghy event, and cruisers will provide the Committee Boat for starts and finishes, and there may be trips out to them for members and visitors from the shore.

Taster dinghy sailing will be available during the day.

(1) The “Chicken Run” is the name of a race all Cody members who go to Summer Camp will recognise, and is a special race where the objective is to cross the line at the end of the racing at exactly the correct moment, nearest to the second wins. There are other rules that make it not as easy as this description makes is sound).

Mengham Rythe to Southsea
Jun 10 all-day

Sailing from Mengham Rythe Sailing Club, and taking the ebb to Southsea, then returning on the flood. This is an adventurous sail of 9 miles to Southsea, out of Chichester Harbour and beyond Langstone. If the wind is in the right direction, this will be an exciting and navigationally challenging daysail. We hope to invite members of Mengham Rythe SC to join us on a weekend with a lunchtime low tide when they would not necessarily expect to sail.

Leading a cruise with the GP14 Class Association @ Leigh on Sea, North shore of the Thames Estuary
Jun 16 all-day

We have been invited by the GP14 Class Association South to coordinate and facilitate a fleet dinghy cruise during their Traveller racing on the 16th June, and we are invited to the social event and BBQ that follows. While turning up in a GP14 would be preferred, we have made it clear that we may turn up in non-GP14’s. This is our first adventure, we hope of many, with the GP14 Class Association.

Lymington to Alum Bay
Jun 23 all-day

Lymington to Alum Bay is an adventurous sail from Lymington, out of the Solent past Keyhaven and to the interesting destination of Alum Bay. It’s often a beat there, and a broad reach or run home, with the tide with us in both directions. 15 mile round trip.

FPSC 10 Hour Race @ FPSC
Jun 30 @ 8:45 am – 7:15 pm

The annual FPSC 10-hour race is nearly upon us and we are hoping to get enough sailors, helms and crew, to be able to put together a number of teams representing Cody Sailing Club.  It is a fun social day followed by a BBQ in the evening.

Format

For those new to the 10-hour race it is a relay race, with 12 separate legs lasting for 50 minutes, with teams of sailors rotating throughout the day.

9.00 to 9.50 am

9.50 to 10.40 am

10.40 to 11.30 am

11.30 to 12.20 pm

12.20 to 1.10 pm

1.10 to 2.00 pm

2.00 to 2.50 pm

2.50 to 3.40 pm

3.40 to 4.30 pm

4.30 to 5.20 pm

5.20 to 6.10 pm

6.10 to 7.00 pm

Timings

It will be an early start and late finish but no one is expected to be there all day, unless they would like to be.  It is a fun atmosphere at the club throughout the day with some competitive sailing and good food.

Although each leg is only 50 minutes depending on where the boat is on the pond when the signal is given will determine the exact timings and time on the water.  Anyone sailing will need to be in the boat and ready to sail five minutes before their allotted time.

Beach Day – Stokes Bay
Jul 7 all-day

A Beach Day at Stokes Bay.

Specifically for families, this is an event where we turn up at Stokes Bay with dinghies and a picnic basket with the intention of sailing just off the beach – no destination planned. If you are new to sailing on the sea, or want to spend a day at the seaside and do a little bit of sailing this is for you. It also happens to be the day of the Round Island yacht race, which is impressive to watch.
