The sailing event planned for the weekend of March 17/18 has been cancelled due to the forecast. Referring to the Met Office’s inshore waters forecast (for coastal waters up to 12 miles offshore) issued on Friday morning…”*the general situation is that very cold air and some snow are expected to spread gradually from the northeast; strong winds, variable 3 or 4, becoming northeast 5 to 7 later; sea state slight or moderate, becoming rough; rain, then snow for a time; visibility moderate or good, occasionally very poor”**.* Referring to the synoptic charts, and general outlook, this forecast is unlikely to improve; club policy is not to sail if there is a force 6 in the forecast. As the saying goes, it’s better to be ashore wishing you were at sea, rather than being at sea wishing you were ashore…
Notification has just been sent out to Cody members for the first dinghy cruising event of the year on Saturday 17th March; this is a day-sail from Itchenor to Dell Quay in Chichester Harbour.
This is a popular club event in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty; it’s also a good opportunity for a “shakedown” sail in the sheltered waters of this picturesque natural harbour.
Part of Cody’s process is to appoint an Advanced Organizer (AO) for specific sailing events. The AO is responsible for organizing who is going on the event, which boats are available, and levels of sailing experience to match a range of abilities in the fleet. The AO coordinates with the Officer of the Day (OOD), the latter taking overall responsibility for the event on the day.

I was having a lovely conversation during the Comet Trio Nationals last year with Nick, the Cruising Captain of Exe SC. He has just forwarded me their cruising calendar, and invited us to join them for a daysail.

Just letting you know that the RYA Level 1 and 2 training for FPSC is available for booking now. There are spaces on the Adult L1/2 Saturday Morning course, and the August course, using the Bahia and GP training boats.. Their contact email address is in the poster.
As the 2018 RYA Dinghy Show draws to a close, we would like to extend our thanks to all the volunteers who manned our stand over the weekend.
We’d also like to thank everyone who came to visit us. We hope you liked what we do and if you didn’t join on the day, will do so! Please feel free to get in touch with us should you have any further questions.
Safe travels everyone.
